Welcome Friends

Sat Nov 18, 2006, 11:29 PM
Greetings,

This is the place for gather, for chatter,
this is a place for casting, everlasting . . .

No matter what your runic background, whether you're a professional rune set manufacturer or you're just a generally curious person . . . you can join this DA group!!

All are welcome!

:bulletpurple: :bulletblue: News! :bulletblue: :bulletpurple:

 Much Thanks goes out to :iconruneaura: for making our lovely Avatar!! He also has offered to make Avatars for others if they wish! =D

Yes, it has been a long while since this group has had a new journal and new art. We need to keep this place going and thriving. I would appreciate if any members who have Rune related art would submit it here to expand our collection. Having these pieces of art all in one Gallery helps all of us find what we are looking for in our Runic path. Our Gallery offers everyone a general place to find all kinds of different styles from many artists who are interrested in Runes. So, agian ... if we could all contribute ... it would be much appreciated. =D Thank You!

Stress? It comes in many forms ... personally, I have had some stress about my first year of college ... moving into a dorm ... all the work and social demands. But what really helps me is when I feel somewhat down: I take out my pouch of Runes and select a single one from the bag. When reading the definition I think of how I have dealt with my stress and therefore, what would work better (using the runes as my guide). If the subject you've pulled the rune for needs more delving into ... then choose a more elaborate spread (3/5 rune spread or a runic cross, etc.).

Addressing simple matters may not be timely for you ... if you're worried about something BIG in your life, consult the runes about it ... if you ask a smaller question (or try to avoid the more urgent one) you may experience "Runic Override" . . . This is when the Runes address the more urgent problem you are facing. So, if you dont understand what the runes are talking about, or they do not relate to the question you've asked :: you may want to rethink what is really bothering you.

If You have any Questions about Runes, thier uses, or any other subject pertaning to Runes: You are Welcome to Send a Note and ask! =D

:reading: a Bit of History . . .

"To pre-Christian eyes, the earth and all created things were alive. Twigs and stones served for Runecasting since, as natural objects, they were believed to embody the sacred. Runic symbols were carved into pieces of hardwood, incised on metal or cut into leather that was then stained with pigment into which human blood was sometimes mixed to enhance the potency of the spell. The most common runes were smooth flat pebbles with symbols or glyphs painted on one side. The practitioners of runemal would shake their pouch and scatter the pebbles on the ground; those falling with glyphs upward were then interpreted." -- The Book of Runes by Ralph H. Blum

:wow: a Bit of Myth . . .

Traditionally, it is said that Runes were discovered by the great God Odin, when he strapped himself to The World Tree known as Yggdrasil.

"The Speech of the High One"

I know I hung on that windswept tree,
Swung there for nine long nights,
Wounded by my own blade,
Bloodied for Odin,
Myself an offering to myself:
Bound to the tree
That no man knows
Whither the roots of it run.

None gave me bread,
None gave me drink.
Down to the deepest depths I peered
until I spied the Runes.
With a roaring cry I seized them up,
Then dizzy and fainting, I fell.

Well-being I won
And wisdom too.
I grew and took joy in my growth:
From a word to a word
I was led to a word,
From a deed to another deed."

-- The Poetic Edda (ca. A.D. 1200)

"I trow i hung on that windy tree
nine whole days and nights
stabbed with a spear
offered to Odin
Myself to mine own self given
High on that tree of which none hath heard
from what roots it rises to heaven."
